Nandina (genus domestica), widely used as an ornamental plant is originally native to Eastern Asia. Also known as heavenly bamboo, or sacred bamboo, it's a suckering shrub of the Berberidaceae family, the sole member of its variety.

Nandina domestica plants are erect shrub growing to 2m tall, with green leaves (old leaves turn red before falling) and white flowers. The fruits are red but poisonous and can be fatal if ingested, they must be handled with care.
